Hospitals in low-resource health systems operate under severe pressure: too few and increasingly exhausted staff, chronic underfunding, high equipment failure rates, and paper-based workflows. These conditions lead to delayed diagnostics, reactive rather than proactive care, and overcrowded wards. The consequences are profound: more than 1.2 million children die each year due to inadequate quality of care¹, and 231 million people face catastrophic health expenditures². To close these gaps sustainably, health systems require scalable solutions for continuous patient monitoring — an area that represents a global market of around €43 billion.

Solution

GOAL 3 has developed IMPALA, a connected-care platform designed specifically for hospitals in hospitals in low- and middle-income countries where patient monitoring often depends on manual checks and paper records. IMPALA brings together multi-patient monitoring, diagnostics, and data intelligence to strengthen clinical response and to provide health authorities with insights for building effective and resilient healthcare systems. It strongly reduces mortality rates, strengthens clinical response, and delivers policymakers the insights needed to build efficient healthcare. The platform is already in clinical use across several countries and shows a strong conversion rate from pilot deployments into regular hospital operations.
