Ashoka Fellow Heinz Frey created DORV centers which become a one-stop-shop for citizens. These centers a local convenience store with postal, social and medical services to inspire local communities to stay in these areas and grow rather than desert them.
Social Impact: DORV-centers not only offer domestic goods and services but also a communal meeting point. At the time of FASE’s initial transaction support, DORV had 10,000 citizens benefiting from 12 centres. For the future, 50 DORV centers were to be built.
Investment: The setup costs for the DORV center GmbH had to be financed until revenues from consultancy, licensing fees and training could cover all costs. Supported by FASE, one foundation and a business angel were identified and teamed up to provide the financial support to the social enterprise in 2014.
